Responsible Gambling
Gambling is not a way to earn money, and it won’t solve money problems. I used to call a session a chance to “win it back”. What that meant was putting more money in after I’d already decided I should stop. That was the bit I needed to notice.
Signs gambling may be becoming a problem
Look at what you do, not what you intend to do. It may be time to get help if you:
- spend more than you planned, or keep raising your limit;
- chase losses by depositing again or returning to win money back;
- use money meant for bills, food or other essentials;
- borrow, sell things or hide transactions to keep gambling;
- lie to someone close to you about how much you spend or how often you play;
- find yourself gambling for longer than planned, or thinking about it when you’re trying to do something else;
- feel restless or irritable when you try to stop;
- keep playing despite arguments, missed responsibilities or money trouble.
A single sign is worth taking seriously. You don’t have to wait until everything else has gone wrong.

Put barriers between you and gambling
If you’re logged in now, stop playing and use the account controls before making another deposit. UK gambling operators must prompt new customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit, and provide accessible account-level limit controls. You can use those controls to set a limit that fits what you can afford to lose. Don’t treat a limit as extra spending money.
UK-licensed casinos must provide responsible gambling tools, including self-exclusion. Use self-exclusion if you need to block your access to that operator. Check the operator’s own terms to see how its tools work. If you’re opening an account, remember that operators must verify your age before allowing you to deposit.
Some protections are built into the rules for online gambling in Britain: slot autoplay is banned, and each online slot spin must last at least 2.5 seconds. For an online slots game, the total stake in a game cycle must not exceed £2 if you’re under 25, or £5 if you’re 25 or older. These rules do not make gambling safe or turn it into a source of income.
Remote gambling operators cannot accept credit-card payments for gambling, including credit-card funding routed through a money service business. They also cannot accept wallet payments where the wallet allows credit-card funds to be used for gambling. A blocked payment method is not a plan for managing gambling. Keep to money you can afford to lose, and step away if you’re trying to find another way to fund a session.
Useful barriers. Not a cure.
Where to turn
If gambling is affecting your money, relationships or day-to-day life, tell someone you trust plainly: “I’m struggling to stop gambling, and I need help.” Ask them to sit with you while you use your account’s limit or self-exclusion controls, or while you look for support. You do not need to have a perfect explanation first.
No verified support organisation or contact details are available for this page, so I won’t guess at a helpline, address or website. If you need support now, check the operator’s responsible gambling section for the help options it provides, and ask a trusted person to help you find a verified service. If you feel in immediate danger, contact local emergency services.
For an issue with a UK-licensed operator, use its internal complaints process. UKGC licensees must also give access to an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service. Those routes are for complaints about the operator; they are not a substitute for help with gambling itself.
Check the operator
Before using a gambling website or app, check its licence details and the link to its public register licence information. A remote operator must show these on the website or app it provides. This is a check on who operates the service, not a sign that gambling is risk-free.
Unlicensed Casino Zone is not a financial service. Don’t gamble with money needed for essentials, and don’t use gambling to try to fix a debt or recover a loss.
